Welcome to the All Skies Encyclopaedia!

You can only edit the encyclopaedia with an account granted by the owner (Susanne M Hoffmann).

Want to contribute?

  • Login with the "login" at the upper right corner,
  • click "Edit" and start writing.

Create a new page

  • put your cursor in the URL-slit of the browser, after "index.php/" write the name of the entry.
  • you will get an error message that the page soesn't exist; at the end of this sentence, you find the option "create page": click it
  • you'll get an empty source code window where your can directly type
  • at the bottom of this newly created page, you find "save".
  • Recommendation: in another browser tab: open the "All Patterns"-page, select the type of entry you want to create and copy its source code to the new window before you start editing: that will ease your life as it provides some headers, and categories automatically.

Watch out!

Each page must have categories! This can only be edited in the source code. Required categories: for the type of object (constellation, star name etc.), for the UN-region on Earth (continent, then subdivision - no countries! as politics changes), the language. Depending on individual research reseach projects, more categories may apply.

Editing is easy:

  • With the menu in the visual editor, you can control the layout (e.g. specify headlines of various level, bold/italic font etc.), create links inside and outside this encyclopaedia... some shortcuts:
    • Ctrl + , for subscript
    • Ctrl + . for superscript
    • Ctrl + i for italics
    • Ctrl + b for bold
    • Ctrl + u for underline
  • add citations: "Basic" mode (for now only this possible)
  • create numbered and unnumbered lists
  • Insert images and image galleries, tables, formulas and other,
  • insert special characters from other alphabets (all Unicode).

Inserting Images

Please use the "Upload file" option at the left sidebar menu!

With this, you can specify a licence for your file easily. Your options are "CC 0 " and "CC BY"; we don't offer more.

Patterns

When you create a page (just type the title in the browser line after /index.php/ and click "create"), please use one of the "Patterns" to get the basic structure (headlines) of the article. Due to specific requirements in different cultures, we specified variants, but in general we appreciate unity in format as this can be more easily queried by astronomical software (such as Stellarium).
